Hudson Valley NY's Spoils System was formed in 2021 by Dan Coutant (vocals, guitar, keys), Sean Hansen (guitar, background vocals), David Fateman (bass) and Mark Frankel (drums). Notably, Dan and Sean have roots in the indie/emo outfit Joshua who released albums on Doghouse Records in the early 2000’s, and were handpicked for tour support slots with legends of the day like The Get Up Kids, At the Drive-In, The Stereo, Jets To Brazil, Shift and many more. Sean also played a major role in the writing and recording of the album “Welcome The NIght” by The Ataris which was released in 2007 by Sanctuary Records.
On their 2nd album "The Nope Out", they seem to have hit their stride with a never before heard blend of shoegaze and power pop reminiscent of artists like Blinker the Star, Elliott Smith, Utopia, Swervedriver and Death Cab For Cutie.
Collaborations on this record include two songs recorded with drummer Kellii Scott from the band Failure ("Force For Good" and "Hall of Forgotten Names"). The album's 10 tracks were mixed by J. Robbins, Tom Hill from The Bookhouse Studio in London, and Missouri based engineer Paul Carabello.
