Pacing is the songwriting and recording project of Katie McTigue. McTigue’s writing style has been described as “tongue firmly planted in cheek” (Surviving the Golden Age), “distinctively sardonic” (Various Small Flames), and “I don’t get it” (multiple sources). Fans and new listeners alike often remark that her anxious, confessional lyrics are "a little too relatable."

In October 2023, Pacing released her debut album Real poetry is always about plants and birds and trees and the animals and milk and honey breathing in the pink but real life is behind a screen. It was named Best Folk Music by Bandcamp Daily, and cemented Pacing as a leader in a new wave of anti-folk music reminiscent of the early 2000s New York scene; one born in an era that is distinctly Very Online.

Pacing is based in San Jose, CA where she is heavily involved in the local DIY music scene and helps run the Heavy Lemon booking collective. In 2024, Pacing joined San Jose’s own legendary punk and indie label Asian Man Records.

In 2025, Pacing toured extensively as a power trio (with Ben Krock on guitars and Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter Vonnie Whatever on drums and vocals) supporting Cheekface and then AJJ.

Pacing’s self-produced sophomore album PL*NET F*TNESS was released in July 2025 via Asian Man Records and features collaborations with hometown heroes Star 99 and Career Woman. The album was recorded at San Jose's District Recording Studio where McTigue currently works as an intern, recording and producing artists including Christian Francisco (Wander).
